#18 Weekly Application highlight: APIs

At the core of the pharmaceutical industry are Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), the key substances responsible for the therapeutic effects of medications. APIs can be classified into two main types:

Natural: Derived from plants or animals ☘

Synthetic: Manufactured in laboratories 🔬

APIs are typically produced by pharmaceutical companies and then sold to other companies that formulate and market the finished drug products. Most medications on the market today contain at least one API. In fact, many drugs include multiple APIs that work together to achieve the desired therapeutic effect.

It’s critical to monitor the APIs concentration and can be achieved in-line with the Kemtrak DCP007 analyzer. Two APIs can be measured simultaneously, and the analyzer calibrated in units of OD, mg/mL or %. The measurement can be done directly in the bioreactor or in a bypass loop and gives response instantly.
